Drainage System
The flow of water through well defined its known as drainage and network of such channel is called a drainage system
A river drains the water collected from a specific area which is called catchment area.
An area drained by river and its tributaries is called the drainage basin.
The boundary line separating one drainage basin from another is known as the watershed.
The catchment of large rivers are called river basin.
Types of drainage system
On the basis of discharge of water
1.The Arabian Sea Drainage
2.The Bay of Bengal Drainage
The Delhi Ridge (the Aravali and Sahyadris ) separating them.
Nearly 77% Drainage consisting Ganga, Brahmaputra ,Tha Mahanadi ,The Krishna.
While remaining 23% in Arabian Sea.
On the Basis of size of watershed ,The Drainage basin of India grouped in 3 Categories
1 .Major river Basin l ( 20000 square km)
2.Medium river Basin (2000-20000)
3.Minor river Basin (less than 2000)
